It imagines the improbable meeting between the playwright and a couple of Sicilian gravediggers who happen to do amateur theatre in their spare time. A clever, comical set-up that might have inspired the Nobel Prize-winning play Six Characters in Search of an Author. Pirandello is drawn into a charming world of colourful personalities, ghostly apparitions, and hilarious amateur theatre. Will the great artist help the feckless thespians? Will the lovable dreamers take the opportunity of their lives? Strangeness is hugely entertaining as it straddles fiction and reality.
